Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche advised us to conduct a Chakrasamvara drupchen annually beginning the day after Milarepa Day. This is the tradition at Surmang Monastery. It has been our tradition in Marburg to perform this every two years since 2008 as an auspicious connection with this lineage.
This invitation goes out to all Chakrasamvara practitioners—whether old or just beginning. The abhisheka that you received allows you to participate in the drupchen (“great accomplishment”). You are welcome to join us even before you have done your first retreat. In fact, this may be the very best way to learn the entire ritual. The drupchen is beautiful and elaborate, including all aspects of the sadhana, especially in making the detailed representation of the palace as a sand-mandala.
Larry Mermelstein will be the loppön and lead the drupchen. We are very happy that he has accepted our invitation, since he worked closely with Trungpa Rinpoche and Tenga Rinpoche on the sadhana translation and how it is practiced. He was the main compiler and editor of the Chakrasamvara Manual and the Drupchen Manual. We are looking forward to learning more about the Chakrasamvara practice, its meaning and background, from his vast experience with these teachers. He will be assisted by the experienced Chakrasamvara team of Marburg and the Netherlands.
